Coumadin/Warfarin Sodium: Safety-based rationales and guidelines




Coumadin and Warfarin Sodium are one of the most widely used medications and can be beneficial to many patients. To encourage compliance and safety there are systems and educational activities that must be in place. This article addresses the safety needs and includes a risk management algorithm. (Please note: CME credit for this test can only be given to our insureds)





At the conclusion of this activity physicians should be able to:

  • Learn major safety concerns about the use of Coumadin/ Warfarin Sodium.
  • Learn ways to prevent adverse outcomes when prescribing Coumadin/Warfarin Sodium.
  • Become aware of resources for you and your patients about Coumadin/Warfarin Sodium.
  • Learn the key elements of an office policy and procedure which increases patient compliance and lowers the risk of adverse outcomes.

Each course includes a test. Completed tests are electronically submitted to MAG Mutual by using the "Submit" button at the end of the test. A passing score is 80% or above. If you achieve a passing score, a certificate of completion will be mailed to the address you will give on your test. You must use either Internet Explorer (version 3.0 or higher), or Netscape Navigator (Version 3.0 or higher) to take this test online. If you wish to take a written version of this test, please contact us. You must complete the evaluation at the end of the test before credit can be awarded. Your test form will be electronically scored and the results immediately displayed on your screen.
