A well-documented medical record can be your best defense in the event of a lawsuit. As every physician who has faced a plaintiff attorney would agree, taking a few preventive measures is preferable to the ordeal of litigation. This activity, "What Plaintiffs' Attorneys Hope to Find in Your Medical Records", provides detailed information on how to document patient interactions, informed consent, telephone contacts, follow-up efforts and patient non-compliance.

At the conclusion of this activity physicians should be able to:
- Understand how plaintiffs' attorneys select cases
- Indicate how the medical record may be used as evidence
- Identify characteristics of a defensible medical record
- Recognize documentation entries that are harmful to your defense
Each course includes a test. Completed tests are electronically submitted to MAG Mutual by using the "Submit" button at the end of the test. A passing score is 80% or above. If you achieve a passing score, a certificate of completion will be mailed to the address you will give on your test. You must use a computer that supports either Internet Explorer (Version 3.0 or higher), Netscape Navigator (Version 3.0 or higher) or Mozilla Firefox (Version 2.0 or higher) to take this test online.
